I have been at the school since 2022.

What you like best about the school:
There is so much to like! The hard-working staff, kind children and our wonderful curriculum which values diversity, our local area, Christianity and outdoor learning, growing and environment to give us a learning which is special and needed for our children.

Favourite book: I loved sharing 'The Boy at the Back of the Class' with my children when I was teaching as it is such an emotive and important story in our current world. I also love Sci-fi books and I have read 'The Lord of the Rings' trilogy many times!

Mrs Sherry Makepeace

Senior Teacher & Year 1 and 2 Teacher

How long have you worked at the school:
I have been at Greenhead for almost five years, since 2017

What you like best about the school:
I enjoy being on the children's learning journey with them and love watching them grow into thoughtful and independent, little people. We are lucky to have such a supportive team of staff who are always willing to help each other.

The area of learning you most enjoy:
I love to teach PE and provide opportunities for all children to try new activities. I also enjoy teaching Geography and RE especially when they can see connections between what they are learning and their own lives. I think it is also important for all young people to understand why we need to look after our wonderful planet.

Favourite book:
You can never get sick of Julia Donaldson books, my children love reading her books and I enjoy sharing them with the class.

Favourite place in school:
Seeing the children enjoying themselves and being creative in the outdoor environment.

Mrs Susan Knowles

Mrs Dawn Hosking

Classroom Assistant

How long have you worked at the school:
2 years, since 2020. It has flown over – time flies when you are having fun!

What you like best about the school:
The children. Every child is different and unique. Greenhead children are the most well behaved and hardworking children I have ever worked with.
I also love the rural location of our school. We are truly blessed to have our school in the area we are in. How many schools can say we have our own woodland and are right next to a stream?

The area of learning you most enjoy:
I love doing after school clubs. It’s also a good way getting to know other children, who I would not normally work with, doing activities which I am passionate about.

Favourite book:
Too many to choose from! I love my garden bird book and could spend hours looking - although I do love looking at maps too - always planning adventures!

Favourite place in school:
The kitchen - making everyone a cup of tea!

Miss Ingrid Mitchell

Early Years Teacher

How long have you worked at the school:
I have worked at Greenhead Primary School for 3 years, since September 2019.

What you like best about the school:
I really love working at Greenhead. The children and staff are wonderful and always make me smile. Greenhead is a small school with a big personality.

The area of learning you most enjoy:
I enjoy learning that follows an enquiry line or answering a question. In Early Years, we use the 'I see, I notice, I wonder' questioning style across a lot of what we do.
My real passion is Forest School and working with children in the woodland. This environment offers an abundance of learning opportunities, giving children the chance to build confidence, resilience, and self-awareness.

Favourite place in school:
My favourite place in the school grounds is the nature garden. It changes so much season to season and is home to a variety of flora and fauna. I like it best when it is filled with children exploring and laughing.

Favourite book:
My favourite book is 'How To Measure a Cow', by Margaret Forster. An author who lived near and visited my family newsagents in Carlisle. The story includes Cumbria as one of the settings, of which I am very familiar!
I also enjoyed reading the very funny, yet emotive; 'There's a boy in the girl's bathroom' by Louis Sachar- which I would recommend to any child!
